-00:00 Dennis Bernstein: introduction: John Pilger Flashpoints Special: complete audio John Pilger's electrifying new documentary, Palestine is Still The Issue
-00:38 Dennis: in 1977, AUDIO LINKBritish journalist John Pilger made a documentary, Palestine Is Still The Issue, telling how the Palestinians were forced from their homes in 1948 and again in 1967.. now in 2002, he asks why the Palestinians' Right Of Return (HRW) (Uri Avnery) is still denied.. now begin documentary audio.. Israeli voices: There is only one way of ending this, it is ending the Occupation.. soldiers terrorize another kid the Occupation has reduced us to animals.. this is a huge bluff of Israel, that every criticism of its policy is anti-semitism.. Palestinian Woman: the soldiers' mothers should come and see what their sons are doing here..

[partial transcript from Pilger's website]
John Pilger: "Twenty-five years ago, I made a film called Palestine Is Still The Issue. It was about a nation of people - the Palestinians - forced off their land and later subjected to a military occupation by Israel. An occupation condemned by the United Nations and almost every country in the world, including Britain.

But Israel is backed by a very powerful friend, the United States. So in 25 years, if we're to speak of the great injustice here, nothing has changed. What has changed is that the Palestinians have fought back. boy throwing stone

Stateless and humiliated for so long, they've risen up against Israel's huge military machine, although they themselves have no arm, no tanks, no American planes and gun ships or missiles.

Some have committed desperate acts of terror, like suicide bombing. But for Palestinians, the overriding, routine terror, day after day, soldiers manhandle a couple kidshas been the ruthless control of almost every aspect of their lives, as if they live in an open prison. This film is about the Palestinians and a group of courageous Israelis united in the oldest human struggle - to be free."

..last April troops and tanks invaded Ramallah.. an attack on schools, offices, radio stations..this vandalism is typical.. even the Palestinian Cultural Ministry was destroyed.. (Amira Hass report) (more Amira) Administrator: (leading Pilger on a tour) this is the administration room, everything is broken.. exhibitions, folklore.. now we don't have anything, except a feeling of humiliation.. this is a bag of shit.. and shit smeared all over the copymaker.. Pilger: they ate and shit in the same room.. Administrator: putting the shit everywhere, even on the walls.. they didn't use the toilets.. Letting Go of Zionism: One World = One People(also see: Kathleen Christison) Pilger: let's go in this room.. good grief! these are children's drawings.. Administrator: yes, this the room for children.. to express themselves.. they (the Israelis) don't respect anything.. this is the terrorism of the Israeli state.. AUDIO LINKPilger: the heart of the struggle here is a struggle for land, for soil.. during the early part of the 20th century, the majority of inhabitants of Palestine were Palestinian Arabs (no further review tonight, no synopsis could do justice, listen yourself)

Roy COME SEPTEMBER by Arundhati Roy. - Donald Rumsfeld said that his mission in the War Against Terror was to persuade the world that Americans must be allowed to continue their way of life. When the maddened king stamps his foot, slaves tremble in their quarters.. "The American Way of Life" is simply not sustainable. Because it doesn't acknowledge that there is a world beyond America. -00:50 Robert Knight and the Knight Report..AUDIO LINK Robert: UN Security Council five permanent members met today.. no agreement.. Kofi Annan said war is avoidable.. full S.C. meeting maybe next week.. Syria says doubts that US can get nine votes.. Bush losing support with US conservatives.. American Conservative Magazine.. angry French minister derides Ivory Coast actions.. Moscow theatre occupied by Chechen rebels.. hold hostages.. Chechen rebel website: http://www.kazkaz.org.. Washington Post says CIA now placing operatives in FBI offices.
-05:45 Dennis: leading documentarianbook cover John Pilger churning out books and videos about US and Western military polcies.. his documentaries include: Palestine Is Still The Issue, New Rulers Of The World, Paying The Price, South Africa: Apartheid Did Not Die.. author of many books, including The New Rulers of the World.. now w John Pilger.. Dennis: you've been critical of Australia.. Pilger: Australia has been deeply involved in Indonesia in a negative way.. about East Timor.. killing of a third of the population.. Vigil for Bali victimsthe terrible atrocity in Bali (link2).. however the Aussie government has supported the Indonesian military.. responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.. the Indonesian military has used its fundamentalist Islamic groups for its own ends.. the Indonesian army has been terrorizing its own population.. Australia has always played an obsequious role for the US.. shooting at tribesmen in Afghanistan.. supporting the US war on Iraq.. creating ill feeling and a lot of enemies.. Dennis: about your new documentary, Palestine Is Still The Issue.. same name as a film you made 25 years ago.. the difference?.. Pilger: the Palestinians have fought back, and the resistance has intensified.. Desmond TutuDesmond Tutu recently compared the Palestinian situation with apartheid in South Africa.. apartheid being institutionalized.. the suffering of Palestinians almost impossible to describe.. most young men in and out of prisons.. a horrific situation.. ignored by most of the US media.. but not the rest of the world.. a tragedy for Israel, corrupting.. the mentality of a paranoid seige society.. bad for the health of any nation.. worse still of course for the Pals.. Dennis: the ambassador to Israel from Great Britain said the occupied territories are the largest detention camp in the world.. [also said Gaza Strip and West Bank reduced to giant concentration camps, Israel is hunting down innocent people in the streets].. Dennis: your new video featuring Fatima?.. Pilger: this is a very typical Palestinian woman.. she was having her second baby, went into labor in the middle of the night.. could see the hospital from their house.. stopped at a checkpoint.. Israeli soldier beats Palestinianthe soldiers wouldn't let them through, they pleaded and begged.. had to have the baby in the car.. difficulties in delivery.. and the husband beaten.. they set out on foot around the checkpoint to get to the hospital.. the baby died.. case after case.. the International Red Cross criticizing the Israeli military in the strongest terms.. shooting at ambulances.. Dennis: you're under attack by Israeli groups.. Pilger: I knew what I was letting myself in for.. but we've had a blizzard of orchestrated hate email.. most from NY.. Orwellian.. Israeli soldier points gun at man's headthe film is actually restrained, most interviews with Israelis.. but it breaks down stereotypes.. breaks down myths, 'truth telling' in my view.. nothing like telling the truth to raise ire.. I've been encouraged.. perhaps they are losing their grip now, things are changing.. Dennis: what do they say to you? they tell me Hitler killed the wrong Jews.. they want to cut my throat.. Pilger: I get similar filth.. about a remarkable historian in Israel.. not the Zionist tales we've heard across the years.. in organized Jewry there are a lot of decent people but who have grown up with myths.. I've spent all my life fighting for human rights.. at the end of the film, I say there has no been no greater.. than the Holocaust.. the same sensitivity has to be extended to the Palestinians.. no longer can we accept the propaganda of these extremist lobby groups.. we have a Jewish chairman, Michael Green, made a fool of himself [scroll down 2/3].. he panicked when the film went to air.. gave an interview, said the film was full of inaccuracies, but never named one (and can never name one, as there are none).. Israeli soldiers abuse another child everyone else stood by it, but he handed a juicy propaganda plum to.. (the pro-Israeli lobby).. shows the power of the extremists.. he felt the lash of the pro-Israeli lobby.. terribly important for journalist and broadcasters to start standing up this lobby.. Dennis: stenographers for the Pentagon?.. Pilger: journalists are there to keep the record straight.. the public doesn't have the time.. our job.. we're there to push back facades.. to say, "you're being told one thing, the truth is something else".. no more important.. about Martha Gelhorn (sp?).. author of Views from The Ground.. said, journalist can see thing from looking down, or looking up through the eyes of humanity.. about the new book, The New Rulers of the World.. traces the history of Indonesia.. 60's bloodbath, to WTO calling Indonesia a model pupil.. strip away some of the myths of the so-called US war on terror.. Jimmy Carter signed a secret order, setting up the worlds biggest terror group (link2) (CounterPunch), the mujahadeen.. tell suspressed history.. like Zinn's A People's History of the World.
-30:00 Dennis: reported in the Israeli press: US House rep from Bay Area, Tom Lantos said to Knesset head, 'you won't have anymore problem with Saddam, we'll be rid of the bastard soon, we'll install a pro-Western dictator who'll be good for us and you'.. a protest going on now at Lantos' office.. Pre-Occupied in Gaza.. so much noise in the war zone, she has given up speech.. sign language.. won't betray her location.. so many explosions, she scares herself eating crunchy cereal.. she hides in the cellar.. for days at time.. yesterday coming home from the bakery, a sniper shoots the bread out of her hands, shoots her hands out of her hands.. Dennis: now they are not allowing Palestinians to pick their olives.. but they are allowing the Jewish settlers to go steal the olives.. now Pals not allowed to drill for water on their own land, but the settlers using infinitely more Palestinian water.. Shaden Abu Hijleh Tribute From A Distant Stranger: Palestinian's Obit Raises 'Controversy' - On a recent Friday evening, while quietly embroidering on the porch of her Nablus home, 60-year-old Palestinian activist Shaden Abu Hijleh was intentionally murdered by an Israeli soldier at close range. Her daughter prayed that reports of her mother's death would not be summarized in a single digit by the press. "I kept on screaming - I hope she's not just another number," Lana Abu Hijleh recalls. The following inspirational piece by new paradigm author, Marianne Williamson, excerpted from her book, "A Return to Love" and quoted by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural address:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light--not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves--who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous ?
Actually, who are you--not to be ?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small-- doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking, so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
We are liberated from our own fear; our presence automatically liberates others.

My heart rouses

thinking to bring you news

of something that concerns you

and concerns many men. Look at

what passes for the new.

You will not find it there

 but in despised poems.

It is difficult

to get the news from poems

yet men die miserably every day

for lack of what is found there.
