Leslie: why all the false convictions? John: coerced confessions, inept judges, state appointed attorneys, prosecutor lie and withold evidence and have absolute immunity for their actions..

Israel government tilts even further to the right, ever harsher measures to the Palestinians.. now w Dina Saba founder and organizer of the film festival and James Longley, producer of film, The Gaza Strip.. James: I made the film in 2001, things are even harsher now, but the film is accurate.. five months into the 2nd intifada.. clear that most of the journalists were reporting from Jerusalem, not bothering to come into Gaza.. the roots of the conflict.. I decided to go make a documentary of what I saw there.. went for two weeks, the situation deteriorated.. a huge sense of forboding.. people were concerned, I stayed until all my money was gone.. 75 hours film.. told by Palestinians.. a good sense of what it is like there.. a 13 year old boy one of the major players.. lives where many children have been shot.. for throwing stones.. he was outspoken and elequent.. I was blown away by the enormity of the crimes committed against the Palestinians.. if Americans could see what I was seeing, no one would support Israel.. -05:00 Dennis: another story of settler violence.. about farmer Odnan Ahmed (sp?).. now w Ray, of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM).. Ray: Odnan was picking olives, in a tree.. I talked to him in the hospital (photos).. settlers came at 4PM and the other farmers fled.. he was stuck in the tree, they demanded he get down.. he came down.. they tied him up, took him in a jeep to somewhere no one could hear his screams.. with big sticks, beat him in the face and body.. melted plastic tubes onto his chest, arms, face, and neck.. tortured him from 4PM to 4AM.. then they left.. he managed to untie his legs and arms, but had broken fingers and toes.. tried to crawl away, but they catch him again and beat him again around his face.. he was concerned about his hearing.. they finally let him go at 7AM.. two men from his village pick him up, he is treated at hospital, in critical situation.. Ray: I gave photos to Alison Weir of If Americans Knew.. Dennis: now w Alison: I made a great effort to get this story out to the press, to the SF Chronicle, and LA Times.. I got the email about this on October 23.. our tax money pays for this.. we need to be informed.. I sent the story to Mark Able at the SF Chronicle.. (to email Mark Able and nine other SF Chronicle News Directors a letter of protest.. click here).. Alison: this is a very important time for Paletstinian farmers.. life or death.. the farmers have to pick their olives.. this young farmer.. climbed the tree, other farmers nearby.. saw the settlers coming, managed to escape.. he could not escape.. Ray: the Israeli authorities did not investigate this.. Dennis: the Pals forbidden to pick their olives because the Israeli authorities say they can not protect the Pals?.. Ray: they hate Palestinians.. no one can control them.. if we are defending our land, no one can hear us.. the Israeli army invades every two weeks, they say we all are terrorists.. where is the world?.. I am very mad.. I am Palestinian American, living here.. Alison: there was no response from the media.. then over the weekend.. all we are asking from the SF Chronicle is full fair accurate reporting.. not only this attack but other stories in the area.. settlers attacked two American ISM activists.. both beaten severely.. an elderly man and an elderly woman.. mentioned in an SF Chronicle story two days ago, but only in the very last paragraph of the bus bombing story.. a 68 year old peace activist, Mary Hughes Thompson.. people in the Bay Area know her.. before she left, she told friends she was afraid of getting hurt .. the man, James Delaplane, 74 years old.. he's in the hospital with a broken rib and pnuemonia.. critical condition.. in Jerusalem's Hadasa (sp?) Hospital.. they were with Palestinian farmers trying to pick olives.. they placed their bodies between the settlers and the pickers.. Dennis: did the Israeli soldiers come to investigate?.. Alison: no.. and these old people, they were hit with rifle butts, kicked in the face and the back.. a level of brutality astounding..

Ray: Settler stonings, beatings, shootings of Pals, pretty much an everyday occurence.. Alison: I was in Gaza a year ago, riding with some Palestinian farmers.. a ways ahead they saw a settler car.. they were terrorized, and turned their car around and fled.. in great fear, like African Americans in the deep south who used to fear rednecks, the kind of brual treatment they can undergo, and no authority will protect them.. I know what it's like to be treated as less than human and be at the mercy of people who have lost their humanity. I embrace you from far away. I pray for your swift recovery. Tariq: a large majority of the Europeans opposed to war on Iraq.. Germany, France firmly opposed.. the only government wholeheartedly supporting, is the Blair government, although the people are against it.. tomorrow a day of action in Britain.. civil disobeideance planned.. a big Halloween rally at Parliment.. in the Arab world, no support for this war at all.. even Jordan, if they don't mind if Saddam falls, cannot say it publicly.. the killing of the US diplomat.. the Marines.. if US launches the war anyway.. will provoke a wave of terrorism against Americans.. the big demos in SF and DC last weekend encouraging to the Europeans.. the big demo in London, 350,000 people marching.. a majority had never demostrated before.. we need to strenghen the Iraqi people so they can get rid of their own dictator.. when Mussolini invaded Albania, the media showed pictures of happy Albanians.. like the US media will show pictures of happy Iraqis, if US invades.. Dennis: can the US steal the oil and get away with it.. Tariq: not that easy.. last week, the North Korean announcement.. no reaction by the US or UN.. in North Korea there is no oil and no Israel.. Oil and Israel are the causes behind the belligerance toward Iraq.. they want to occupy Iraq to pressure Saudi Arabia.. and take over the Iraqi oil wells.. thirst for oil is ruling the world.. at a conference organized by the US State Department.. pro-Western Iraqis met with oil companies.. said 250,000 civlians may die, but it's worth the price.. on the payroll of the CIA.. very generous with the lives of the Iraqi people.. these people represent exactly nobody.. non-Kurdish groups.. a fundamental question: if the US succeeds in toppling Saddam, how long until they allow democratic elections.. they will delay, and delay.. the Shiites, 80%.. would link up with Shiite Iran.. what would the US do then.. the US will try to prevent this.. the whole situation a recipe for disaster to come.. Dennis: will Kuwait have to allow their citizens to vote?.. Tariq: the pressure would be great.. would the US help crush democratic movements.. this has been thought through seriously.. Dennis: about Central and South American.. the election of Lulu in Brazil, US trying to depose Chavez in Venezuela.. Tariq: Chavez is an elected president, democratized the country, refused to privatize the oil.. US would have gotten away with it, except for the poor.. Condi Rice said he should learn his lesson.. he still hasn't privatized the oil.. US has a problem, Latin America in rebellion against.. Argentina is on its knees.. in Venezuela, they refuse to let Chavez use the oil revenues to help the poor.. in Brazil a working class leader in power for the first time.. the reason for the big vote in Brazil.. the outgoing presidnet wrecked the country with neoliberalism, handed the country over the corporations.. Lula is being threated by the WTO.. if the landless peasants organized.. he is under heavy pressure.. but the rank and file will not accept another surrender to the corporations.. the poor of Brazil elected him.. thunderous appause.. a combination of fear and expectation on the part of the poor.. they took risks voting against the landlords and.. in Bolivia, revolt.. Dennis: the war on drugs in Colombia.. Tariq: Plan Colombia an operation to police the continent.. is the US going to occupy these countries?.. they fell they have to have a military presence.. an empire in serious danger of overstretched.. if the American economy would collapse.. serious trouble for empire.. Tariq: only the American peace movement can stop the war.. the demos in Sf and DC important, but not to the scale to sway the Senators.. compare Vietnam.. Fulbright's hearings.. a big tragedy that the one Senator honorable, Wellstone, is dead.. in the Vietnam era.. the war hasn't happened, so the demo numbers impressive..

Edward: initial speculation via the Pentagon.. a type of opiate.. syntanal (sp?).. a heroin type drug, modeled after the opium plant.. but syntanal much more powerful that heroin.. the first time a drug like this being used.. raises many questions about the biological, chemical warfare issues.. Dennis: would they knowingly risk the lives of 800 people.. Edward: governments have convinced themselves that there are safe non-lethal incapacitants.. it appears summary executions were performed.. Dennis: the Pentagon denies they have developed drugs like this.. Edward: that's a lie.. see our website for details.. allegations in the past that these kind of drugs used in combat before.. a dangerous precedent.. no country has come out and condemned this use.. now weaker countries will try and develope these agents.. now w Susan Wright, of the University of Michigan, biological warfare specialist.. Susan: what are the political implications trying to restrain these types of agents.. it lowers the moral and legal barriers.. the slippery use of the term terrorist.. 101 of the hostages died.. not non-lethal.. even tear gas can be lethal.. about the silence.. no country has come forth to question this use.. Russia might be in violation of certain treaties.. Dennis: the US resistant to treaties restraining the use of chemical and biological weapons.. Edward: a major major challenge for the chemical weapons treaties.. we were denied access to the meeting.. denied accreditation.. under the chemical weapons convention, this gas would not be allowed.. it is very clear that the agent used in Moscow, did not have temporary effects, it had lethal effects.. about the inspections allowed under weapons treaties.. the US resists inspections, and thus treaties.. the chemical weapons treaty looks weaker and weaker.. Dennis: how extensive is the US chemical and biological? weapons program?.. Susan: the US has by far and away the largest stockpile and development of biological weapons in the world.. under the US Defence Department.. contract to a private company, Optometrics, based in Michigan.. to develop.. certain agents.. a major no-no.. and in the chemical weapons arena.. a very worrying situation.. Susan: THE US IS GENETICALLY ENGINEERING.. A STRAIN OF ANTHRAX THAT WOULD RESIST ANY KNOWN VACCINE.. I CAN'T THINK OF A MORE WORRYING DEVELOPMENT.. THAT KIND OF WORK SHOULD BE DEFINED AS ILLEGAL.. if the US succeeds in delaying the 5th review conference, that issue will never come to the table.. ironic that US.. denying this legal barrier to biological warfare.. about the CWC.. we need to be operationalizing those provisions now..

Sam: as the world believes that things are calming down as no major events.. not true.. many Palestinians being arrested, held for six month, political prisoners, so-called 'administrative detentions'.. Dennis: 7000 people seized, some of our friends seized?.. Sam: all violation of international law.. Hiphan Hamori (sp?).. a resident of East Jerusalem, on the staff at the YMCA.. four Israeli soldiers entered the Y, went to his desk.. took his hard drive, and took him to the 'Russian Compound' (the main Israeli torture chambers for Palestinian prisoners).. a Israeli lawyer took the case but was never allowed to meet him.. after three days, he was taken before a judge, given a six month detention.. he was working on building a YMCA in Ramallah.. got one million dollars from US aid.. while in his hearing.. Isareli officer said he was being arrested for making trips to Ramllah.. he is not a threat, has no connection to any violence.. while Bush calls for reform, any community activist or reformer is put in prison.. Dennis: when you put one Palestinian in prison, the whole family suffers.. his eight year writes: we love you and miss you a lot.. we need you.. I can't go to karate or piano, as there is no one to drive me.. Sam: this is devastating.. about his three daughters and his wife.. were told yesterday they could visit him.. a three hour drive.. they left early in the morning.. they were terrified.. when they got to the prison, they were told, no we just decided no visit today.. lots of burdens.. Israel systematically trying to break the Palestinian spirit.. they will fail, we will built the YMCA.. John Pilger: "Twenty-five years ago, I made a film called Palestine Is Still The Issue. It was about a nation of people - the Palestinians - forced off their land and later subjected to a military occupation by Israel. An occupation condemned by the United Nations and almost every country in the world, including Britain.

But Israel is backed by a very powerful friend, the United States. So in 25 years, if we're to speak of the great injustice here, nothing has changed. What has changed is that the Palestinians have fought back.

Stateless and humiliated for so long, they've risen up against Israel's huge military machine, although they themselves have no arm, no tanks, no American planes and gun ships or missiles.

Some have committed desperate acts of terror, like suicide bombing. But for Palestinians, the overriding, routine terror, day after day, has been the ruthless control of almost every aspect of their lives, as if they live in an open prison. This film is about the Palestinians and a group of courageous Israelis united in the oldest human struggle - to be free."
