5:30PM tonight Tuesday Nov 19, Zellerbach Hall, UCB Details: Jewish Voice for Peace
Tuesday, Nov 19, 2002 - Start Audio -00:00 Dennis Bernstein: introduction:
new NATO 'Find and Strike' force to operate outside international law.. extended wire taps approved by a U.S appeals court.. Homeland Security Act rider protects drug manufacturers from being sued for defective vaccines.. -00:48 Dennis: NATO ok's a rapid response 'Find and Strike' force, to operate outside international law, to strike at *terrorist* targets anywhere in the world it choses.. to explain, now w Richard Norton Taylor, journalist with the Guardian of London.. (his story today).. Richard: about this plan: the US will be legislator, judge and executioner.. the hawks in the White House have plans for Nato.. this force will strike anywhere in the world with or without the authority of the host nation.. the US will provide the firepower, the Europeans will provide the "soft power", ie. they will clean up the mess.. France is deeply uneasy.. Germany continues to distance itself from Bush.. but no matter.. discussion about why Washington wants political cover, and why Europe, especially Britain, seems willing to provide it.. why Britains feel they cannot say no to US demands
-12:00 Dennis: US appeals court rules Justice Department has broad new powers in wiretaps.. now w Michael Ratner of the Center for Constitutional Rights, and Jean Butterfield with the American Immigration Lawyers Association.. Jean: it's open season on the 4th Amendment.. (roundtable discussion)
-26:14 music break It's All About The Price Of Oil -28:32 Dennis: tomorrow Congress votes on the Homeland Security Act in its entirety.. one obscure clause makes it more difficult for families whose children were harmed by routine vaccinations to be compensated.. over 25 law firms have filed a lawsuit on behalf of victims.. James Ferrell is an attorney for several plaintiffs and says this issue has no business in *homeland security* and what they're doing is trying to protect certain companies.. now w James Ferrell: they are using this as an opportunity to protect vaccine manufacturers.. about Eli Lilly.. about their product *thymerasol* (sp?) added to vaccines in the 1990's.. contained mercury.. I represent several hundred children from the 1990's.. aultism.. an enormous financial burden.. the children have been deprived, the parents have been deprived.. Dennis: this is amazingly being written into the 'Homeland Security Act' (HSA), protecting Eli Lilly.. why the rate of aultuism doubled in the 1990's.. skyrocketing rates mirror the use of thymerasol.. why we think they companies knew the risks of vaccinating children with mercury.. about the amendment to the HSA.. about the requirements for parents to file timely under the HSA.. Dennis: it will suggested that any parent who sues, will be seen as aiding or abetting terrorism. -37:27 Dennis: now w Pam Corley, mom of a 3 year old, James, a thymerasol affected child.. Pam: when he was about a year old, he stopped developing.. Dennis: how did you learn it was mercury poisoning, related to thymerasol.. Pam: I went everywhere, nobody had an answer, said he's just retarded.. finally I went to a doctor, he said we'll do blood tests.. said he had extrememly high levels of mercury in his blood.. he was two days old when he got his first shot.. and then he got the regular sequence of vaccines.. the attorney and I looked up the lot numbers of the vaccines.. my child is permanently handicapped.. serious issue.. mercury goes to your digestive system when an adult eats it.. shocking to me that the second most toxic element known to man, goes directly into the bloodstream of children in vaccines.. Dennis: the HSA will limit your ability to seek justice from the drug companies for putting mercury in your child's vaccine.. Pam: about greed and the desire to make money.. inconceivable.. I can not possibly imagine how terrorism and my disabled child can be related.. to the president of Eli Lilly: how to explain raising a child.. I can not take him to the movies.. people stare at you.. heartbreaking.. it never happens with me and my son.. I go to the grocery store and see moms irritated that their sons demand to get items on the shelf, I wish my boy could even do that. -47:00 music break -49:28 Dennis: about tonight's visit to UC Berkeley by former Israeli prime minister, Ehud Barak.. now w Barbara Lubin of Middle East Children's Alliance.... Barbara: Barak sparked this latest infitada.. he has a history of destroying peace.. tonight's protest begins about 5:30 at Zellerback.. Dennis: more history about Barak.. he's a racist?.. Barbara: under Barak a 90% increase in settlement building.. Barak involved in assassinations too.. a horrible background.. about Camp David.. nobody understands what that so-called offer was about.. Barak 'offered' the Palestinians 20% of their original land back.. some offer.. I'm asking people to come out.. I took heat a couple years ago for the protest against Netanyahu that was concelled.. we need to come out.. be non-violent, be peaceful.. and we have every right to protest too.. protest Ehud Barak's *Generous Offer*, 5:30PM tonight Tuesday Nov 19, Zellerbach Hall, UCB.. The following inspirational piece by new paradigm author, Marianne Williamson, excerpted from her book, "A Return to Love" and quoted by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural address: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light--not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves--who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous ? Actually, who are you--not to be ? You are a child of God. Your playing small-- doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking, so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. We are liberated from our own fear; our presence automatically liberates others.
"The attitude of great poets is to cheer up slaves and horrify despots" ...Walt Whitman
My heart rouses
thinking to bring you news
of something that concerns you
and concerns many men. Look at
what passes for the new.
You will not find it there
but in despised poems.
It is difficult
to get the news from poems
yet men die miserably every day
for lack of what is found there.
-- William Carlos Williams
'The theory of a free press is that truth will emerge from free discussion, not that it will be presented perfectly and instantly in any one account.' Walter Lippmann
